The Academy of Dance offers strong dance training for children that strive to combine a sound knowledge of dance with a love of movement. At the same time we provide a safe and healthy environment that will allow each dancer to build confidence and self-esteem.

 

At the Academy of Dance our classes gradually increase in technical demands as the student’s age and maturity allows.

Young Children's Classes

    Rhythm & Movement (2 yrs old):

This delightfully fun class is a great introduction for the tiny dancer. This 30 minute class     incorporates both singing and dancing which helps the very young child become familiar with body  movement.

Dress: Hair pulled back, any color leotard, no tights, and no shoe

Creative (3 & 4yrs old):   

 

This 45 minute class is the next step for the tiny dancer. The class offers a  wonderful

movement experience inviting young dancers to explore imagination and creativity

through dance. An Introduction to Ballet and Tap are taught by focusing on rhythm

and basic steps.

 

Dress: Hair pulled back, pink ballet slippers, black patent leather tap shoes. Pink leotard & Tights

 

Ballet & Tap (5 & 6yrs old):    

This 45 minute class is filled with Fun, Technique, and Teamwork. This is a combination class to help build timing and rhythm skills with poise and ballet technique.

Dress: Hair pulled back, pink ballet slippers, black patent leather tap shoes. Lt Blue leotard

& Pink Tights

Classical Ballet

We at the Academy of Dance urge all students to select ballet as their basic dance form.

Whether the student has professional aspirations or is merely dancing for enjoyment, ballet

offers the basic discipline and technique necessary to succeed in all other dance forms. We

offer ballet classes from levels 1 to Advanced.  Our Ballet Instructors will evaluate each

dancer and place them where they are best suited. 

Our studio also offers Pointe classes. 

 

Dress: Black leotard, pink tights, pink slippers, hair in a bun.

 

Pointe

Pointe is for the more experienced and techniquely trained ballet dancer.  These young ladies

must be at least 11 to 12 years of age and have studied 3 to 4 years of intense ballet.

 

Dress: Black leotard, pink tights, pink slippers, hair in a bun.

Tap Dancing

Jazz Tap (6 - 8yrs):  

Jazz Tap is an introduction to basic tap skills and terminology. This is combined with

basic jazz step patterns which allows for a very fun and uplifting class.

 

Tap 1 – Advanced 

This program emphasizes accurate rhythms, clear sounds and a thorough knowledge of tap terminology.

Dress: Young Student - Black patent leather shoes with ties, hair pulled back.  

      Older Students – Black Jazz Pants, Black Oxford tap shoes,

Jazz

Jazz 1 - Advanced

Jazz  is a highly stylized form of dance. It demands energy, strength and flexibility. Jazz dance is widely seen on commercial stages including television and Broadway.

JAZZ 1 - Black leotard, black jazz pants and black jazz shoes

JAZZ 2 - Any color leotard, black jazz pants, tan jazz shoes

JAZZ 3 - Any color leotard, tights and shorts, tan jazz shoes.

Hair is always pulled back into a ponytail.

Modern

This is a class designed for the advanced dancer. This very abstract style of dance requires the technique and discipline of classical ballet and the strength of jazz.

Hip Hop

Hip Hop is a form of dance that was once referred to as street dance and has now become mainstream. This style of dance can be seen in many music videos.

Musical Theatre

Musical Theatre classes are specialty classes for students interested in supplementing their dance classes with skills necessary for musical theater performance. This is the combination of singing, acting & staging. Because these are not dance technique classes, each musical theater student must be enrolled in at least one dance class.

 

Dress: Leotard and tights (any color) are preferred, and jazz shoes. Cover ups may be worn over the leotard.  Hair must be pulled back off the face in a low pony tail or bun.
